WoW BBQ MasterClass with Jonathan Agnew
We recently had an incredible day with cricket broadcasting legend and total gentleman, Jonathan Agnew MBE.
Agger's ability on a BBQ, to put it politely was average, but his competitive nature, eagerness to learn and desire to impress were very apparent. Here we had a man ready to listen to our every word of BBQ nerdiness - fantastic!
Our aim for the WoW BBQ MasterClass was to have fun, teach Aggers some BBQ skills and provide him with a platform to develop what he learnt and put it into practice on his own Weber BBQ.
So, one sunny morning in September we planned with Aggers to run the MasterClass at Mr and Mrs Aggers' home. They invited some of their friends and we fired up the BBQs. We kicked off proceedings with a presentation of aprons and talked them through the plan of the day - learn, cook, eat, drink and be merry!
Below are some pictures of the day and some simple but delicious recipes for you all to try your hand at!
Some beer and wine was cracked open first and the ice was broken, there was no looking back! All kitted up with aprons we started off with a simple pizza recipe. This was a great way to get everyone involved, hands dirty and fed quickly.
Pizza Off a Weber BBQ
The dough for a pizza is easier to make than you think but for this event we made it the day before.
Pizza Dough Recipe for 4 people
- 300g Strong white bread flour
- 300g Tipo 00 flour
- 1x 7g sachet of instant dried yeast
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tsp caster sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 375ml warm water
- Don't use boiling hot water as it will destroy the yeast
Weber BBQ Beer Can Chicken
Beer can chicken is the method to infuse extra flavour into your chicken. It ensures the chicken tastes incredible and remains juicy. Forget your oven, cooking a roast chicken on your BBQ is incredible - flavoursome and juicy with a crispy skin! Prepare your bird with some melted butter and some seasoning, pour in some beer into your poultry roaster and place into your BBQ for an indirect cook at 180°C. When cooked, your chicken should have an internal temperature of 75°C and you can use any of the Weber thermometers to check that it is safe to take off your Weber BBQ.
Teriyaki Pork Tenderloins Recipe
This pork recipe is so easy and when done, you can fool any of your friends (including 4 legged), that you are a BBQ pro.
Reverse Seared Steak
Ok, this technique takes longer than the conventional way of cooking a steak, however once you try this method you'll soon become an advocate. The Reverse Sear method can be learnt here

We would like to thank the Agnew family and their friends for what was a truly unforgettable day. It was a genuine pleasure to be able to help get Aggers up and running on his BBQ and meet Mrs Aggers and friends. We have no doubt we'll see you all again soon and we look forward to coming back next year to see how Aggers' skills are holding up!
